Turning Your Passion for Finance into a Thriving Book Club

Turning Your Passion for Finance into a Thriving Book Club

February 05, 2024

Imagine, you're surrounded by curious friends, laughter fills the air, and everyone's buzzing about... personal finance! Sounds unusual? That's the reality I created with Rus IRA, a book club where Russian-speaking women learn and empower each other financially.

As a wealth advisor, I'm constantly expanding my knowledge. But sharing isn't just good for clients, it's enriching for everyone. In my social circles, I noticed a trend: women, despite living longer, often felt less confident about managing their finances. This sparked an idea - a structured learning environment with my like-minded friends.

My fellow Irina (yes, we share the same name!), recently divorced, loved the idea. We spread the word, and soon, a group of eager women filled our space. The interest was overwhelming, necessitating a membership cap to facilitate discussion.

We named our club "Rus IRA," a playful mix of "Roth" and "Russian" (with a nod to our names' abbreviation). It even symbolizes an Individual Retirement Account - a perfect fit for our financial focus!

This January, we celebrated our second anniversary! But beyond cake and laughter, we shared deeper reflections. Phrases like "The club changed my life,” “I understood that stock market fluctuations are normal and don't take it close to heart anymore," "I stopped picking stocks and prefer diversified funds," and "I feel more confident about my finances" painted a beautiful picture. By reading books and sharing experiences, we were empowering each other.

Books like "Rich Dad, Poor Dad" by Robert Kiyosaki and "Financially Fearless" by Alexa von Tobiel, and "The Psychology of Money" by Morgan Housel became companions on our journey. And as Albert Einstein wisely said, "The more I learn, the more I realize how much I don't know." This sentiment resonates deeply. The learning never stops, but the supportive community makes it all the more rewarding.

Want to join a similar journey? Consider starting your own financial book club! Share your passion, create a supportive space, and watch lives transform, one empowered conversation at a time.
