Financial Life Planning
We do our best work for clients when we partner together for ongoing financial planning and investment management. We begin with an initial 12-month engagement. Under this arrangement, we can address the full range of your planning goals, assist you in implementing our recommendations, and respond quickly to any changing circumstances in your life.
Investment Management from Fiduciary Financial Advisors
We offer investment management under annual retainer agreements. We determine a flat rate (monthly or quarterly) based on factors such as the number of accounts, asset size, and types of your investments. We manage client investments at Charles Schwab and TIAA. Our investment portfolios include high quality funds from Vanguard, iShares, and Dimensional Fund Advisors. Many of these investments are oriented toward Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) factors including those that are Socially Responsible Investments and aim for a positive social impact.
As part of our services, we review, reassess, and rebalance your accounts according to changes both in the markets and in your life on a periodic basis. Our goal? Ensure you continue on the path that leads to the fulfillment of your goals.
How Fees are Calculated
All of our Investment Management engagements begin with a one-year contract so that we can get to know you and provide deeply personalized advice and recommendations to you. Our fees are calculated based on the nature of our work together. Your needs and preferences will direct and drive our work, beginning with our first phone call. After we will learn about your unique circumstances and goals, we prepare a detailed proposal for our work together.
Factors we use in calculating fees include the complexity of your situation, the scope and level of services, and the size and types of your investment accounts.
In general, investment management fees range between 0.80% and 1.2% of the assets we manage for you. Investment advisory fees may range from 0.30% to 0.50% of your investments such as 401Ks, 403bs, or TSPs, where we give you investment advice and you implement.
Investment advisory fees are in addition to financial planning fees so that you are paying for only what you need. Financial planning is included with all investment management engagements.
Fees for a first year financial planning relationship may range from $9100 to $15,500, which includes a $2500 deposit and then between $550-$1100/month, depending on your selected scope of work.
After we complete your first year retainer engagement, you have the option of entering into an ongoing retainer, starting at $550 per month for financial planning only services or planning and investment advisory/management services starting at a minimum of $3000 per quarter.
We don’t require you to bring a minimum level of assets to the table before you can receive investment advice or access to investment management.

How We Work With Clients
Financial planning is about a lot more than just the numbers involved -- and so is proper investing. You bring your own set of goals, timelines, hopes, and fears to the table.
Your investment portfolio should be designed with all these factors in mind as we focus on what we can control (such as diversification and asset allocation) rather than worrying about what no one can predict (market volatility or overall return).
When we assess and help manage your portfolio, we want to do so in a way that provides you with the resources you need to meet your goals. To build your portfolio, we gather information around a number of important questions. Here is a sampling of some of those questions...
- What type of investments do you prefer, and which make the most sense according to your current and prospective economic state and lifestyle?
- What level of investment risk are you comfortable with?
- Is putting your money to work through Social Impact or Socially Responsible Investing important to you? We can facilitate this for you.
- What kinds of investments are most appropriate for your time frame?
- What kind of asset allocations will best help you meet your goals?
- How involved do you want to be in the day-to-day monitoring of your accounts?
Financial Advice That Puts You First. Always.
Anyone serving as your advisor, coach, accountability partner, or guide should listen more than they talk. They should ask questions, not stand and lecture. They should take the time to learn what matters most to you -- and what concerns you.
Only then can an advisor fully work in your best interest to deliver a plan truly tailored to your values, goals, and priorities.
That’s how we strive to serve. This is your life, and we’re here to support your vision. The type of financial planning we offer puts your priorities first, and our process gives you the space you need to ask questions, address any worries, share what’s on your mind, and get the understanding and clarity you need to feel confident that your financial situation is set and secure.
As a fee-only firm, our only income is from you, our client, not investment companies or insurance carriers. With a fully transparent fee structure that we share with you in advance, you always know what you are paying. As a result, we have no inherent conflicts of interest or biases. We conduct our business under a fiduciary duty and are held to strict codes of professional and ethical conduct.
You need a plan that you can count on, and a team that has your back along the way. We’re in the business of helping the people we serve make wise financial decisions that allow them to live the best life possible with the resources they have.
